Service to the College
All full-time facutly are expected to participate in service to the College by sitting on committees, action teams, or other opportunities to contribute to the spirit of service within our college community. When you're just getting started at Central Piedmont, it can be challenging to know where to begin to get involved because many of the opportunities to participate stem from word-of-mouth, but Central Piedmont offers a variety of opportunities to serve. The CTLE offers the majority of service opportunities for faculty.
Action Teams
An action team is created to solve a particular problem, and its focus is to come up with solutions to the problem, then propose the best solution(s) to leadership. Usually, action teams are created by leadership and members are appointed by invitation or volunteering.
Committees
Committees are a small group of people chosen to represent the College at large and either make decisions or collect information about a specific area of need. Faculty may choose to serve on a committee within College Senate, or they may choose to serve on a committee that is lead within the CTLE.
College Senate
College Senate is the representative body for faculty and professional staff, where you can bring your ideas, questions, suggestions, and concerns. You can also take your ideas and concerns to your college senator, who is there to represent you.
Additionally, faculty may choose to serve on any of a number of committes within College Senate even if they are not serving as a senator.
Learning Commons
The Learning Commons at Central Piedmont are groups (typically 6-15 people) who regularly meet to connect, share, and learn about a given teaching and learning topic. The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence facilitates a number of Learning Commons that are geared toward academics. A full listing of CTLE Learning Commons can be viewed on the CTLE's section of the College intranet.
Learning Communities
A Learning Community is a peer-led group of employees who come together to engage in collaborative exploration and action around a specific topic tied to the Central Piedmont Strategic Plan. Learning Communities are structured to provide encouragement, support, and reflection. Learning Communities meet periodically for a minimum of one year to stimulate innovation and create experiential, collaborative learning environments. Learning Communities also provide a flexible, professional development structure through research, seminars, course development, and community building. Learning Communities are offered through Central Piedmont Talent Development
CTLE Faculty Fellows
Faculty Fellows in the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence have a passion for, and expertise in, community college teaching, learning assessment, and best practices in student learning. These faculty leaders work closely with faculty and college stakeholders in the areas of research, faculty competency attainment, and professional development and learning.
Faculty Fellows serve for a two-year commitment, with rolling memberships based on the date of selection. When the opportunity to apply for the Faculty Fellows becomes available, an email will be sent out with instructions on how to apply.
